I just received Raj ji’s E bass Special 26 inches long bansuri. I am a beginner with only five months of regular practice behind me, and I could play the bansuri immediately. The distance between the fifth and sixth holes is an incredibly small 5 cm. The bansuri has a deep and resonant tone, and it is extremely easy to blow to produce a clean and beautiful sound. Right now, where I live (Berlin, in Germany), the temperatures are very high, which has made my bansuri a bit flat. But once one adjusts the tampura to match the S on the bansuri, it’s wonderfully tuned. Half notes are very easy to play due to the nicely proportioned holes. The only thing I would have liked to be different is not to have the branding right in the front of the mouth hole. I feel it doesn’t look good aesthetically. I also didn’t want to see a capital E printed below the mouth hole. But those are just cosmetic things, it’s not a very big deal. I really love the sound of this bansuri and I think it is going to be a very important part of my learning process.
